When Snap, Inc. announced earlier this year that it had created a pair of video-recording sunglasses called Spectacles, it was a little hard to get a handle on just what the end result would be. Snap was new to the hardware game, and more ambitious wearables like Google Glass had been expensive, niche failures. But yesterday a limited number of Spectacles went on sale, offered through a yellow pop-up vending machine near the company’s original headquarters in Venice, California — and we finally got a chance to see what the company had come up with. After spending some time with…

While a certain brand of action camera will probably come to mind when you decide you want to record your extreme exploits, there are actually plenty of options to choose from. Here we look at some of the best action cameras available in 2016, including models from GoPro, Garmin, and Sony. Action cameras have, since their introduction, been great at helping users to record previously difficult-to-capture moments. They are generally small enough and tough enough that they can be mounted on your bike, skateboard or body without getting in the way. But new cameras are also beginning to address the…

If there’s one thing Samsung got right with the Galaxy Note7 (before they started exploding) it was squeezing a larger display into a compact design using screens with curved edges. And now rumors suggest Apple might borrow a page from Samsung’s playbook. The iPhone 8 might come with larger, curved displays, according to a Barclays Research note sent to MacRumors. Citing Asian supply chain checks, Barclays Research analysts, believe Apple will switch from the current 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus to larger 5- and 5.8-inch displays for the iPhone 8. If it ends up being true, it…

Unicode, the controlling group behind the emojis populating our phones and computers, has been working to make emoji more diverse in recent years. A whole host of skin colors have been added, and Google recently proposed adding more options for working women. In the latest draft of new proposed emoji for Unicode 10.0, there’s another sign of the times: the next emoji release should include a woman wearing a headscarf (known as a hijab when worn by Muslim women). It’s a logical addition — for women who wear them, the hijab is a big part of their visual identity, and…

Pixel XL, the first made-by-Google phablet, has earned big accolades for its camera, super-swift performance and pure Android experience. Still, it’s an expensive phone, and not all of its features are necessities. How does it compare to one of our favorite bargain ‘droids, the OnePlus 3? Size Only the Pixel is XL in name, but both phones could be considered such. The OnePlus 3 is smaller, but only by 1-2 millimeters in each dimension. When it comes to thickness, there’s only a tenth of a millimeter’s difference. Weight The slightly smaller OnePlus is 6-percent lighter. Build Both phones have an…

Apple is working on a new way to make emergency phone calls. An upcoming iOS update, which Apple previewed to developers Tuesday, adds a new “SOS” feature that will let you make an emergency call when you press the power button five times. When the feature is enabled, all you have to do is is quickly press the power button five times to trigger a call to emergency services. (Macrumorsreports the new feature will be available in the US, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, Spain and the UK.) SOS does include a short…

https://youtu.be/fze5spdN3nU Shrugging off internecine battles and public lawsuits, Hyperloop One on Tuesday announced an official agreement with greater Dubai and the United Arab Emirates to launch a feasibility study for building one of the first hyperloop transportation systems in the Arab desert. And Hyperloop One is selling that feasibility with sizzle. The two-and-a-half-minute video the company launched as part of this announcement (and which it teased on Monday) reveals exactly how its proposed sub-supersonic, ground-based transportation system will work in Dubai and connecting locations. Hyperloop One claims that such a system could cut the travel time between Abu Dhabi and…

https://youtu.be/pToVxgq1uTE This password encryption device is budget friendly and makes it nearly impossible for identity thieves to break into your online accounts. It’s hard to come up with strong passwords and then remember them all. Especially if you want a unique password for each website you sign in. It’s not even funny how often I use the “forgot password?” feature to create a new one just because I forgot it. And using the same password for all websites is not an option. It’s just too risky. Did you know that 1 in 4 people experienced identity theft last year? And…

Xiaomi didn’t hesitate taking inspiration from Apple’s MacBook for its Notebook Air a few months ago, it’s certainly not shying away from following the suit for its first computer mouse — weirdly named the Mi Portable Mouse.  Unlike the Magic Mouse 2, which has been criticized for bad design choices (it’s unusable when you want to charge it), the Mi Portable Mouse feeds on pencil cells, which can be accessed from top of the mouse. The Mi Portable Mouse also supports dual-mode connection allowing people to quickly switch from one computer to another. The company says that you can connect…

Forget the Jet Black or matte black iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Bring on “Jet White.” Apple might add a glossy white color to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, according to a report from the Japanese Apple blog Mac Otakara. The site claims sources within the supply chain suggest Apple is at least considering the option, although the information might be unreliable. Mac Otakara, at the very least, has a history of reliably leaking new Apple news ahead of their announcements. A new Jet White option would might help further boost iPhone sales. Historically, Apple only releases new…
